⚔️ Historical Context

The ozutsu was a large-calibre Japanese hand cannon developed during the Sengoku period. More powerful than the standard teppo, these heavy firearms were capable of firing larger projectiles and were used against fortified positions, defensive structures and densely packed enemy formations.

Although slower to reload and more difficult to handle than conventional matchlock arquebuses, ozutsu weapons delivered tremendous stopping power. They became valuable specialist weapons during sieges and major engagements, demonstrating the rapid evolution of gunpowder warfare in sixteenth-century Japan.
