⚔️ Historical Context

The yumi is the traditional Japanese asymmetrical longbow and remained one of the most important battlefield weapons throughout the Sengoku period. Before firearms became widespread, ashigaru archers played a vital role by weakening enemy formations, covering troop movements and supporting advancing samurai.

Although the introduction of the teppo gradually changed Japanese warfare, yumi archers continued to serve alongside matchlock infantry for many decades. Their speed, accuracy and versatility made them an indispensable element of every major Sengoku army.
