During the Sengoku period, prolonged warfare meant that equipment was rarely wasted. Ashigaru often recovered armour, helmets and weapons from abandoned battlefields or defeated enemies, gradually improving their personal equipment over years of campaigning.

Many veteran infantrymen displayed a mixture of armour styles and weapons acquired through battlefield experience rather than formal military supply. These unique combinations reflected both the harsh realities of constant conflict and the resourcefulness of soldiers who survived multiple campaigns across feudal Japan.
