⚔️ Historical Context

The Sōhei were Buddhist warrior monks who defended temples, escorted religious leaders and participated in many of the conflicts of the Sengoku period. While many are remembered for wielding the naginata, they were also trained with the versatile bō, a long wooden staff that could be used for defence, crowd control and effective close combat.

The bō demanded exceptional discipline, balance and technique rather than brute force. In the hands of experienced Sōhei, this seemingly simple weapon became a highly effective tool capable of striking, sweeping and disarming opponents while preserving the mobility needed to fight within temple grounds and narrow mountain paths.
