⚔️ Historical Context

The Sōhei were Buddhist warrior monks who played an important military role throughout the Sengoku period. While the naginata became their most iconic weapon, many Sōhei also fought with the yari, a versatile spear capable of both defensive formations and aggressive thrusting attacks.

The yari allowed warrior monks to fight effectively in organized ranks while defending temples, mountain passes and strategic fortifications. Its reach and adaptability made it one of the most widely used weapons in feudal Japan, equally effective in the hands of samurai, ashigaru and the Sōhei.
