⚔️ Historical Context

Naoe Kanetsugu served as the chief strategist and senior retainer of the Uesugi Clan during the final years of the Sengoku period. A loyal supporter of Uesugi Kagekatsu, he became famous for his military leadership, political ability and unwavering sense of honour.

Kanetsugu played a decisive role in defending Uesugi territory against powerful rivals such as Tokugawa Ieyasu and became renowned for the iconic helmet bearing the kanji 「愛」 (“Love”), one of the most recognizable symbols associated with samurai history. His legacy has made him one of Japan’s most celebrated military commanders.
